Gas Turbines

Gas turbines are used to power jet, aircraft, pumps, generators (electrical), ships and trains.

Gas turbines (combustion turbine) consist if 3 main components which is the Air Compressor, Combustor and Power Turbine. Atmospheric air flow through the compressor resulted in higher pressure. Extra power/energy is added when fuel are sprayed and ignited with the air. Therefore, high temperature combustion are created. The high pressure and high temperature gas enters the turbine area and expands to the exhaust pressure and producing turbine shaft work which is used to drive the compressor. Excess energy from exhaust gas can be used for external work; for eg drive a fan, generator or etc....

The common and leading brands of gas turbines are GE, Alstom (Previously known as EGT NV, now GE for Heavy Duty Gas turbine), Kawasaki, Mitsubishi, Solar (Catepillar), Ansaldo, Siemens, Capstone, Man, Centrax, Opra.
